Marywood to Induct Smith, Five Alumni into 27th Hall of Fame Class

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University will honor former women's soccer coach Andrew Smith and five alumni into the Athletics Hall of Fame in September. The 27th Class of Inductees will be honored on Sunday, Sept. 14 in the Nazareth Student Center Fireplace Lounce on Marywood's campus. 

The six-member class includes Smith, Siobhan Blancaflor '13 (women's soccer), Kim Commisso Tintle '15 (women's lacrosse), Paul Kania '13 M'15 (men's golf), Beth Schwab Brenner '14 (women's cross country), and Dylan Swope '16 (men's lacrosse).

Andrew Smith was one of the most successful coaches in Marywood history. He led the women's soccer team to a 224-165-29 (.571) with a 137-44-16 (.736) mark in conference play in 23 seasons. As Marywood's second winningest coach, he took the Pacers to 15 consecutive (17 overall) conference postseason appearances. Smith led the women's soccer team to four conference titles, as well as three NCAA Division III tournament berths. Smith was honored as conference Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year seven times throughout his career.

Smith is in his fourth year as Director of Athletics and Recreation at Marywood University. 

Siobhan Blancaflor '13 was a two-time NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region recipient for the women's soccer team. She was twice named CoSIDA Academic All-District, becoming the first to receive the award in program history. Blancaflor led the Pacers to an ECAC South Region championship in 2010. She was a four-time CSAC All-Conference honoree with three First Team laurels.

As a member of the 100 Points Club, Blancaflor holds the single-season games played record at Marywood. She was Marywood's Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012-13.  

Kimberly Commisso Tintle '15 accumulated multiple national, conference and school records with the women's lacrosse team. She was the NCAA Division III record holder in career draw controls and single-game ground balls. Commisso was named CSAC Player of the Year, along with three First Team and one Second Team All-Conference merits. She was selected IWLCA All-Boardwalk Region in 2012. 

Commisso held school records in career draw controls, ground balls and caused turnovers. She had the single-season records for ground balls and game-winning goals. Commisso produced the single-game records for ground balls and draw controls. 

Paul Kania '13 M'15 was an instrumental student-athlete responsible for establishing the men's golf program from the ground up. He assisted the coaching staff in recruiting students with interested in playing competitive golf. As a dream became a reality, Kania played for the team during his junior, senior and graduate years. He set the footing for a program that earned back-to-back CSAC championships and NCAA tournament appearances in just its fourth and fifth years of competition.

Kania was a two-time All-CSAC First Team honoree, and he finished runner-up in the 2013 CSAC Championships. He is the only three-time Team MVP in men's golf program history. 

Beth Schwab Brenner '14 is among one of the most decorated student-athletes in Marywood history. She led the Pacers to four consecutive CSAC women's cross country team championships. Schwab competed twice at the NCAA Division III Championships — first as an at-large qualifier, then as part of the 2013 team that placed third at regionals and 24th at nationals. She was a two-time USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region and a four-time CSAC All-Conference runner. 

Schwab was selected as the Marywood Female Athlete of the Year and CSAC Runner of the Year in 2012. She has the second-fastest 6K time in school history. 

Dylan Swope '16 was one of the most electric attackers in men's lacrosse program history. He was twice selected CSAC All-Conference, named to both the First and Second Team. Swope led the Pacers to back-to-back CSAC championship game appearances, as well as an ECAC runner-up finish. 

Swope was the men's lacrosse career record holder in assists and points. He set program marks for single-season games played, assists and points. Swope also had the record for assists in a single game.

The Marywood Athletics Hall of Fame members are chosen by a selection committee consisting of Marywood athletics administrators, faculty and university officials. Nominees may be a student-athlete, coach, administrator, team, 'honorary' nominees, media representative, corporation, etc. that has made an outstanding contribution to the Marywood University Athletics and Recreation Department. The Athletic Communications office automatically nominates former student-athletes, coaches, administrators and potential honorary nominees via archives.
