Madison, N.J. - The Marywood University swimming and diving teams both dropped a pair of meets against conference opponents Susquehanna University and Drew University at a tri-meet hosted by the Rangers. Despite the team losses, the Pacers managed a number of solid performances including wins from
Maia Clasby,
Carson Barry,
Bri Koehnke, and
Nick Dubinski.
Women: Susquehanna 214.5 Marywood 81.50, Drew 184 Marywood 109
The Pacer women had a tall task ahead of them against the conference champion River Hawks and the Rangers, who return national qualifier Mal Vishwanath.
Marywood saw another strong performance from freshman
Maia Clasby, who is starting to establish a history of close races. Last week in the 100 breast, Clasby barely escaped with the victory by one hundredth of a second. This week, the same race would once again be decided by a finger nail. Coming down to the last lunge for the wall, Clasby triumph by a relatively larger (but still small) margin of .17 seconds over Susquehanna Sophomore Brooke Boes with a time of 1:13.42. She also posted a second place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:40.05 and a tie for third place in one meter diving with a score of 168.83.
Bri Koehnke won both diving events for the second week in a row to remain undefeated in dual meet competition and against conference opponents. Though her dive difficulties were not always as high as her opponents, the sophomore's consistency proved superior as she triumphed on one meter board with a score of 203.93 and on three meter board 212.25, both by less than 15 points over Susquehanna diver Krista White.
The women closed out the meet with a season best time of 3:59.74 and a 3rd place finish from
Mary Cate Coyle,
Julia Randolph,
Mia Nardone, and
Christine Llewellyn in the 400 free relay just behind the Rangers A Relay (3:58.72) and also behind the Riverhawks best foursome (3:48.91).
Men: Susquehanna 198 Marywood 75, Drew 198 Marywood 72
The Pacer men also faced a challenge against the River Hawks and Rangers, but answered with strong performances of their own.
Diver
Carson Barry, like Koehnke, triumphed on both boards to remain undefeated in both dual meet competition and against conference opponents. On the one meter board, the current record holder won with a score of 183.15 over Drew sophomore Angelo Angione(164.63). On the three meter board, the freshmen earned a season best score of 189.23 to once again beat Angione (163.73).
Sophomore Nick Dubinksi proved himself a contender in a pair of breaststroke races against the two opposing teams. In the 100 breast, Dubinski surged from fourth place to second in the last lap to record a time of 1:02.23, picking up the victory over Susquehanna, but barely falling to Drew junior Michael Ma (1:01.82). In the 200 breast, Dubinski once again used the final yards to surpass all of his competition from the River Hawks with a time of 2:22.73, but once again fell to Ma (2:16.36).
Other strong performances included senior
Blake Burlingame who was part of a very close 50 freestyle that saw him post of time of 22.36, less a half a second behind Brett Walker of Susquehanna (22.33) and Jack Mahoney of Drew (21.91). Senior Jarred Lubarsky also posted strong third place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13..50 behind Drew's Alex Longacre (2:10.03) and Susquehanna's Eric Towne (1:58.20).
Lubarsky, Dubinksi, and Burlingame would also be joined junior
Wesley Yancey in both relay events. In the opening 200 medley relay, the team posted a season best 1:42.60, finishing just behind the top relays from Drew (1:38.34) and Susquehanna (1:39.71). To finish off the meet, the men posted another season best in the 400 free relay with a 3:30.09.
The Pacers return to action on Nov. 11 against non conference opponent Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa. at 1:00 PM.
