Softball Splits Day One in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Leesburg, Fla. - Marywood University split their opening two games of the 2020 softball season as Pacers rebounded from a 10-3 opening game loss to Saint Mary's (Indiana) with a 9-3 win over Wentworth (Mass.).

Kelly McKenna (0-1) suffered the loss for the Pacers in the opening game after allowing three earned runs on six hits over two innigns of work. Cait Becher and Kately Weller each pitched two innings as well, with Becher allowing two unearned runs and Weller allowing four runs. Kary GIllette pitched the seventh for Marywood and did not allow a hit.

Sarah Witte was 2 for 3 and Jackie Burke went 2-for-4. Marywod scored all three in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Witte had an RBI single and Lauryn Butler forced a bases loaded walk. Kaitlyn Epler then had an RBI sac fly.

In the 9-3 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology, Marywood scored eight times over the first three innings. Sophomore transfer Gianna Marsico (1-0) struck out eight and allowed six hits in her Marywood debut, collecting the complete-game victory. Marsico allowed three runs (none earned) on six hits in the win.

Annie Heyen was 2-fo-r-2 with a double and two RBI. Juia Kistler went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Marywood is back in action with two more single games tomorrow in Clearwater. The Pacers will take on Penn State New Kensington at 11:15 am and North Central University at 1:30 pm.
