Swimming Overtakes Immaculata; Men's 200 Free Relay Notches Comeback Win

Scranton, Pa. - The Marywood University swimming teams both saw success in a sweep of Immaculata University Saturday in Atlantic East Conference action. The Pacers' men edged the Mighty Macs with a 107-104 comeback win, and the women posted a comfortable 155-94 victory. 

The men's 200 free relay captured the victory on the final race of the afternoon. The relay of Dylan Hervieux, Cameron Gorman, Joey Slish and Jason Lee defeated the Mighty Macs by 4.69 seconds. After the Mighty Macs touched first off the block, Gorman garnered the lead for the Pacers' on the second leg, turning a 14-hundredths of a second disadvantage into a 3.01 lead. Gorman's 23.94 split time lifted the Pacers to win the race with a time of 1:39.61. 
 
Slish had a dominant race in the 1000 freestyle, finishing ahead of his seed time by more then six seconds and ahead of his opponents by almost a full 32 seconds. Slish also enjoyed success in the 500 free, finishing with a time of 5:51.48.

Gorman picked up wins in both the 200 free (1:53.10) and the 50 free (23.71). In the latter race, Gorman outtouched his opponent by a mere seven-hundredths of a second. Lee followed up with big wins in the both the 100- and 200-breaststrokes, completing the races with respective times of 1:08.81 and 2:04.83. 

The quartet of Olivia Fryer, Sabrina Zieger, Samantha Peck and Elise Shore started the women's meet strong by taking first place in the opening race. Their 200 medley relay tabbed a 2:07.11 performance.

Zieger netted a pair of first-place finishes in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM, dashing both of her seed times with swims of 2:21.98 and 5:10.15, respectively. 

Peck garnered a strong first place in the 100- and 200-yard breast with times of 1:15.45 and 2:42.07. She racked her third win of the day with a 1:04.05 performance in the 100 butterfly. Shore also rose to the occasion with first place swims in 50 free (27.66), 100 free (59.97) and 200 free (2:11.22).

Junior Mackenzie Blithe brought in a pair of firsts for the Pacers. She shaved 10 seconds off her seed time in the 1000 free, clocking in at 12:34.55. Blithe came out ahead in the 500 free in 6:12.49. Sophmore Maggie Davis brought in a butterfly win with a season-best 2:35.24.

The Pacers will travel to Wilkes-Barre next weekend for the Diamond City Classic.
