Sowersby Named Interim Head Men's Soccer Coach & Facilities Manager

Scranton, Pa. - Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Murphy announced that Hunter Sowersby has been named Interim Head Men's Soccer Coach/Facilities Manager at Marywood University. Sowersby, who was the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach for the past two seasons, takes over for John Velasco, who departed in April.

"We are extremely excited for Hunter to serve as our Interim Head Men's Soccer Coach" Murphy said.  "I think Hunter has the potential to be a superstar in the coaching ranks and am happy he has chosen to fill this role with us."

Hunter Sowersby joined the Marywood University men's soccer staff as an assistant coach in 2019. He previously served as an assistant men's and women's soccer coach at his alma mater Wells College.

"It is an honor to be hired as the Head Coach here at Marywood University" said Sowersby. "I consider myself blessed for the opportunity to be able to coach at such a beautiful place with a great group of young men! Since arriving to Marywood I have been welcomed into an incredible home and cannot wait to see what the future holds."

Sowersby played four seasons with the Express from 2013-16. During that time, he scored 16 goals, six assists and 38 points. He was selected to the All-NEAC Third Team as a sophomore.

He was an assistant coach at Wells for both soccer programs in 2017. During that time, Sowersby also served as an admissions counselor.

More recently, he was an assistant boys soccer coach at Sidney Central School District in New York. He was also the owner and primary trainer for Clearly Heart Academy in Sidney.

Sowersby holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sport Management from Wells College.
