Scranton, Pa. – Third-ranked Marywood University continues its 2022 Atlantic East Conference field hockey playoff run with a semifinal date against No. 2 Cabrini University on Wednesday afternoon. The matchup begins at 4 p.m. in Radnor Twp., and it will be aired on the Atlantic East Network.
The Pacers (6-11) advanced with a 3-2 victory over No. 6 Manhattanville College in the first round on Saturday. Marywood saw offensive production from the unlikeliest of heroes.
Jordan Saybe and
Emma Wagner each tallied their first goals of the season to help Marywood advance.
It marks the fourth consecutive semifinal appearance for the Pacers. The matchup bills the past two Atlantic East champions. Marywood took the crown in 2019 during
Julie Trott's first year at the helm. Cabrini won last season's title in a thriller over St. Mary's College of Maryland.
Cabrini looks for its sixth title under Jackie Neary's tenure. The Cavaliers (12-4) have been idle since beating Neumann on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Cabrini is on a four-game winning streak and suffered their lone Atlantic East loss (1-0) to the Seahawks. The Cavs are looking for their first NCAA appearance since a 7-5 barn burner in 2016.
SERIES HISTORY
The Cavaliers have won the past two games over Marywood. Previously, the Pacers won three consecutive games by 2-1 scores during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Dating back to 2000, Cabrini leads the series 25-4. The Pacers broke a 22-game streak with a 2-1 win over the Cavaliers in 2018. During their most recent playoff matchup, Marywood eliminated Cabrini 2-1, thanks to a Kenzie Drew goal from Lindsey Quinn in the opening minute of overtime.
Marywood fell to Cabrini 4-1 on Oct. 19 in the Electric City. Three of the four Cabrini goals came during the second quarter. The Pacers' lone goal came from
Lauren Youngken on a
Milana Straub-assisted play in the 43

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Brianna Sumner, fwd, Marywood: Sumner's game-winning goal held up in the Pacers' victory over Manhattanville in the first round. She leads the team with six goals. Sumner had a goal and successful shootout in the Pacers' 2-1 victory over King's earlier this season.
Lauren Youngken, mid, Marywood: Youngken assisted two of the Pacers' three goals to defeat Manhattanville in the first round. She currently leads the team with eight assists and 18 points. Youngken ranks eighth in the Atlantic East in assists.
Rachel Yohn, gk, Marywood: Youngken made a season-high 17 saves against the Cavaliers in October. She ranks second in the Atlantic East with 107 saves and 7.13 saves per game. Her season-best performance game in an 11-save effort against King's in which she turned away eight straight shootout chances.
Daly Ewing, mid., Cabrini: Ewing broke a scoreless tie in the regular season matchup between the two teams. Her redirected score ignited a three-goal run during the second quarter. Ewing ranks seventh in the Atlantic East with 23 points (10g-3a).
Maura Tumelty, fwd., Cabrini: The senior's lone goal was the team's biggest of the season. Tumelty swatted a ball out of mid-air to stun No. 11 TCNJ in overtime on Sept. 13.
