Zieger's Silver Highlights First Day of AEC Swimming Championships

St. Mary's City, Md. — Freshman Sabrina Zieger had Marywood University's standout performance with a silver medal on the first day of Atlantic East Conference Swimming Championships. Both the Pacers' men's and women's swimming teams are fourth in the overall standings.

Zieger took second place in the 500 free with a time of 5:40.98. Zieger dropped 4.01 seconds off her prelim time to finish runner-up. Teammate Molly O'Neill was second place with a time of 5:49.14.

In the men's 200 IM, Dylan Hervieux and Nathan Grosvenor were fifth and sixth, respectively. Hervieux had a prelim time of 2:04.63, and Grosvenor touched in a time of 2:16.03.

Marywood added four sixth-place finishes on the night. Freshman Olivia Fryer dropped more than a half-second in the women's 50 finals to finish in 26.36 seconds. Cameron Gorman clocked in at 23.01 seconds in the men's 50 free with a 14-hundredths of a second drop in finals. Joey Slish had a 5:13.94 performance in the 500 free.

The Pacers were fourth place in all four relays. The men's 200 free relay of Gorman, Hervieux, Jason Lee and Grosvenor swam a time of 1:33.94. Zieger, Elise Shore, Fryer and Darmofal placed in a women's 200 free relay time of 1:47.46. Slish joined Gorman, Hervieux and Grosvenor in the 400 medley relay to register a 3:53.5. The women's squad of Darmofal, Samantha Peck, Zieger and Shore recorded a 4:29.59.

Lee came in seventh in the men's 200 IM. Shore was eighth in the 50 free.

Competition resumes at St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday.
