AEC PREVIEW | No. 6 Marywood Travels to No. 3 Cabrini in First Round

Richard Fuchs has three game-winning goals on the season

Scranton, Pa. – Sixth-ranked Marywood University opens the 2022 Atlantic East Conference men's soccer playoffs on the road against No. 3 Cabrini University on Saturday at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Atlantic East Conference Network.

The Pacers (7-10, 2-4) picked up the No. 6 seed for the second consecutive season. Marywood looks to collect its first playoff victory since joining the Atlantic East in 2018. With a win, Marywood would travel to top-seeded Marymount on Tuesday.

Marywood is looking to break a four-game slide that continued in a 3-0 loss to Susquehanna on Wednesday night. The Pacers earned their spot after winning two of their first three games of the conference slate. Marywood defeated Centenary 2-0 on Oct. 5 and held off Gwynedd Mercy 4-3 on Oct. 12 on its home turf.

Cabrini (7-7-1, 4-2) shook off an opening loss to Neumann by winning four of its last five games. After being blanked by Marymount in a pivotal matchup on the road, the Cavaliers exploded for five goals in a victory over Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday. Cabrini has had two long stretches – four and five – without a victory this season.

SERIES HISTORY

Cabrini has won the past four contests in the series to extend its winning margin to 11-4-2 in the series history dating back to 2007. Marywood's most recent win over the Cavaliers came in a 1-0 victory on Oct. 10, 2018, thanks to a Zac Lloyd goal from Dylan McMahon.

In their matchup earlier this year, Cabrini scored three times in the first nine minutes en route to a 7-1 victory. Mason Guelho scored the Pacers' lone goal in the match on a Chris Valdes assist.
