Joan Berbenich, known by many as “JJ,” was a 1984 graduate of Marywood College and excelled at Field Hockey, Basketball and Softball. 

In Field Hockey, Berbenich was a United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA) National Tournament player and was a Susquehanna Association All-Conference first-team selection in 1982 and 1983.  Berbenich was also a third-team selection in 1981.  A member of the Mid-East Field Hockey Team in 1982 and 1983, Berbenich established program records for assists during her playing days.

On the basketball court, Berbenich scored a career high 36 points versus Lycoming College on February 23, 1983.  Over the course of her career, Berbenich averaged 15.6 points per game and scored 925 points. 

On the softball diamond, Berbenich was named to the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division III Central Region All-American Team.  She established program records for Most Hits and RBIs, and is still the Marywood record holder for career RBI’s with 82 from 1981-1984.
